About Us
Founded in 2003, Crime Watch SA began as a community-driven initiative inspired by the success of the Milnerton Crime Watch Trust. Our journey started in the Sunset Beach area, where crime rates ranged between 8 and 25 house break-ins per month. In response, the Sunset Beach Neighbourhood Watch (SBNW) was established. In those early days, SAPS reservists patrolled in a vehicle generously donated by residents and local businesses, while meetings took place under a tree in the SAPS car park. The goal was simple: to reduce crime and make our community safer. The presence of SBNW had an immediate impact, significantly lowering crime rates in Sunset Beach.

The Story of Crime Watch SA
The Birth of Crime Watch SA
Crime Watch began in 2003 as a ‘neighbourhood watch’ type of service based on the success of the Milnerton Crime Watch Trust operating in Milnerton. The first area of operation was in Sunset Beach where crime stats at that time were between 8 and 25 house break-in and theft incidents per month. SAPS reservists were employed to patrol the suburb in a vehicle donated by local business.
Expanding Security Services & Impact
Crime Watch grew from strength to strength and with pressure from residents to provide more security features, and from the industry to formalise as a registered security company, began offering alarm monitoring and armed response services.
From Sunset Beach Success to Wider Reach
Crime Watch quickly reduced the crime in the area, almost eradicating it altogether, and making Sunset Beach one of the safest places in Cape Town. The adjacent suburbs requested that the Crime Watch service be expanded to their areas and this has taken place progressively ever since.
Comprehensive Security Solutions from Crime Watch SA
A technical department was opened offering clients alarm installations, upgrades and maintenance services. This has now grown into a second department offering CCTV installations and maintenance as well as offsite CCTV monitoring.
Extensive Coverage
Crime Watch is now the strongest security company in the Milnerton Precinct with permanent patrols and response vehicles located in Sunset Beach, Milnerton Ridge and Royal Ascot, and other response vehicles operating and patrolling in Tijgerhof, Milnerton Central and Montague Gardens.
From Neighbourhood Watch to Comprehensive Security
Growing With The Times
As regulations evolved, authorities required us to formalise our neighbourhood watch services, which meant we could no longer use SAPS reservists. This led to the formation of Sunset Beach Crime Watch, which later developed into Crime Watch SA, a private security company. By 2010, we had launched a dedicated technical department for alarm and CCTV installations, as well as a state-of-the-art control room to monitor alarms and despatch our armed response officers more effectively. This also marked the introduction of our first-ever community CCTV camera.
From Sunset Beach to Security HQ
As crime continued to decline in Sunset Beach, it became one of the safest neighbourhoods in Cape Town. Encouraged by our success, neighbouring suburbs like Milnerton Ridge and Royal Ascot, both struggling with high crime rates, sought our services. We expanded our reach, reducing crime in these areas while growing our community CCTV network and off-site monitoring capabilities. This allowed us to efficiently identify, react to, and investigate suspicious activity.
In 2017, in response to client requests for a reliable guarding service, we launched our dedicated guarding division. Today, we provide security for residential estates, shopping centres, and commercial complexes. These services are fully supported by our armed response officers and remotely monitored via CCTV from our control room, ensuring a consistently high standard of security.
